For years, coveted Twitter/X handles traded in backchannels. X’s new Handle Marketplace makes it official: Premium+ users and Premium Business orgs can search, request, and in some cases buy inactive @usernames directly from X. Handles are grouped into Priority (free with subscription) and Rare (paid, from $2,500 to potentially seven figures, depending on demand/uniqueness). If approved, X transfers the handle to your account; your previous handle is frozen, with X hinting at a future (paid) redirect option.
